give the dog smaller portions more frequently, you could simply be feeding the puppy too much.
Put a large rock in his food bowl, it will slow him down.
Just give him a few pieces at a time.
Use dry food, cover it in water and then serve immediately. Lapping up the water between “layers” slows them down.
You can try hand feeding him. Or you can try placing large rocks in his bowl so that he has to move them around before he can get to his food or you can try this bowl which is the same idea as the rocks http://www.brake-fast.net/ Good luck!
Either put something in the dish so that he has to eat around it – a rock or upturned bowl ) or feed him smaller amounts more often.
It is fairly normal behaviour – they eat it fast so their littermates can’t steal it.
Yes that is normal puppy behavior. You wont be able to stop him from eating so fast but you can only give him a small amount of food at a time. Let him eat that small amount, allow it to settle and then give him a little more, and repeat the process. This should stop him from throwing it up. Also limit the amount of water that he drinks right after he eats, the water makes the food swell in their bellys which can also make them throw up.
I don’t think I would go with the rock route as people are suggesting because your dog might eat the rocks eating as fast as you say he does. If you can then should reduce the quantity he gets at each meal and give more meals throughout the day. Make sure the dog has plenty of rest before he is active again after each meal as well as not to upset his stomach. If that doesn’t work then I would try adding water to the bowl to make him slurp water as well which should slow him down.
yoiu can feed him small amounts often, and there are special doggy bowls that have these tubes that stick out so your dog has to eat around them causing them to eat slower. kinda hard for me to describe.
They make bowls specifically for this problem, the bowl has three points in it and the dog has to eat around the points to get the food slowing them down. Are you feeding the puppy three times a day in small portions? he might eat fast because he’s starving, make sure he’s also not food protective. Remember he just came from a litter full of brothers and sisters and it was eat quickly or don’t eat at all. My puppy ate like it was a hot dog eating contest at the fair. Eventually she slowed down and even started walking away from the bowl before finishing, she soon figured out no one was going to take it away or eat it.
raise the food bowl off the floor so he can’t get it so fast.Or feed him smaller portions at a time.
Many kibble fed dogs vacuum their food especially pups that are used to competing with others.
Try feeding frozen meaty bones – it gives them something to play with as well as a healthy meal. When your dog has learned to chew properly then you won’t need to freeze them anymore.
