Stuffed dogs would be perfect for the two of you. *headdesk*
I would think of either a Pomeranian if you want a small dog or a Golden if you want a bigger dog.
You should consider getting them from a dog shelter. The Trumbull County dog shelter in Ohio is forced to put dogs in a gas chamber every Tuesday and Thursday because they don’t have room for them. There are thousands of other places forced to take these measures as well. People keep breeding their dogs, while other are in shelters dying weekly.. Look into this first.

The first year you own a puppy, expect to shell out around $1000+. That is not negotiable. You’ll need shots, check ups, vet care, food, dishes, leashes, beds, toys, crates, treats, collars, training?. And that’s the shortened list.
Do you two have over $2000 to spare? And that cost is usually upfront. It’s not spread out over the year. When you get that puppy, you’ll need to buy all of the above things all at once. You need the shots ASAP. A stuffed animal toy ALONE for a dog is about $15 now. Every time you go to the vet, REGARDLESS of what it’s for, expect to be out another $100 at least.
Now that we have costs covered, can you exercise them frequently? Puppies need to be exercised a TON to grow healthily. They need to also be with you a lot, and let out quite a bit unless you want them to pee all over the floor, themselves, or their crate. And they will if they are not taken out a lot.
Next, a dog appreciates when you can spell it’s breed name like you’re the educated and functioning member of society necessary to care for a dog. If you spell the name horribly phonetically like a 1st grader, chances are you should not be the sole person a dog relies on for it’s livelihood.
You cannot handle a litter of puppies. No way no how. It’s a sweet idea, yes. But a pregnant dog would need lots of pre-birth care. LOTS. And you can bet your bottom dollar that’s going to literally just suck money out of your pocket, the vet will wring you absolutely dry for check ups for that pregnant dog. After that, when the dog goes in labor, do you know how to help the birthing process? Can you deliver several infant puppies? Can you afford to get each and every one paid for at the vets office? Can you devote nearly 24/7 to sitting and just staring at the new puppies? No going out. No. You sit there and watch those puppies to make sure nothing happens to them. They are so easily harmed and the littlest things can possibly even kill them. Then you will need to get them a few necessary shots before you ever even think of adopting them out. Bring out the checkbook yet again for some HIGH bills.
Then, you have to usually get them some sort of vitamins, or special food for before they’re adoptable, somewhere to live, somewhere to play, all of that until they’re about 9 weeks. And you will have to spend almost every waking hour with those dogs until they get much older. They chew everything. Cords, desks, couches, shoes, clothes, toilet paper, everything.
Puppies are NOT a fun activity to take up because, why not? They are a responsibility. You are taking on another life and being the one who provides for it and cares for it and keeps it alive and healthy. They are so fun and cute when properly cared for, but you have to devote almost all of your time to them every day. No skipping one day because you wanted to go to the mall and remembered you have a party that night too, so you’re out all day. You have to go home and care for those dogs.
If you can deal with this all, knock your little heart out.
what lauren said. she said it perfectly. and dont be a scummy backyard breeder
Wait until you grow up before you think of getting any dog. The world doesn’t need any more scumbag back yard breeders adding to the numbers being killed in shelters.
Just want to endorse Lauren T’s lengthy but totally excellent post and thank her for taking the time to give you the facts as they are.
You should consider NOT breeding and giving the dogs a chance in shelters. Do you even realize how much time, knowledge, and money this will involve?
