Is it true that beagles get into a “smell trance”?

I just asked a question about my beagle and someone answered that beagles get into a “smell trance” and you have to snap them out of it before it begins. Is that such a thing? I mean my beagle definitely follows her nose and ignores the crap out of me, but a trance?

I think it might be partly true. Of course, I’ve never had a pure beagle, I only had a beagle mix as a child. My beagle mix Lady was very scent driven and sometimes when I would pull her away from it she wouldn’t seem to notice my pulling at first almost like she was in a trance. It sounds a little silly but this is my experience. Not that she was also mixed with some type of terrier, possibly a poodle.
