Which one wil defend property more?
And is it better a boy or a girl?
Is it a well breed to only walk 2 times a day?
I have small home.
Neither.
Sex is irrelevant
Depends on the dogs energy levels
There are no pocket beagles anymore. The original bloodline has been dead for YEARS. Any so called pocket beagle being sold today is just a small 13in beagle.
Beagles come in 2 sizes; 13 inch and 15 inch. There is no such breed as a pocket Beagle. No, they do not defend property. They are hounds and bred to follow a scent. And howl constantly.
beagles are a defined breed known as a good alert dog “barker” NOT a guard dog as in attack & bite (good thing in today’s sue happy society)
Pocket beagles are an attempt to cash in on the craze to have a unique dog – a dog looks like a beagle but smaller – they are usually a mix and may not resemble a beagle in temperment in any way..
Sorry but I have never heard of a pocket beagle…I have had beagles for 25 yrs of my life. I hope this is not another BYB attempt at establishing as new breed!
Anyway I believe that there are 2 standards for Beagles as far as the AKC goes…1 is 13″ high at the shoulder and the other is (I think) 15″ high at the shoulder)
Almost any dog will defend its property…the extent all depends on training and genetics.
Beagles are HUNTERS and love to get outside to hunt game! They also make great pets and are usually sweet and lovable, especially with kids and family!
My 3 beagles were stubborn creatures and would bark incessantly if someone were to come to the house. They never went into attack mode though and were the sweet variety
No such thing as “better” boy or girl either. BOTH are driven by their nose!!!
I guess that beagles would do ok with 2 GOOD walks per day (ON A LEASH) but always be ware that once a beagle picks up a scent, it forgets EVERYTHING ELSE!!! INCLUDING YOU!!!
Also be aware that as with all floppy eared dogs, they are prone to ear infections (MINE always came down with them and I always cleaned their ears once a week!
DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE YOU CHOOSE!!
Do not get one because they are so cute (which they are) or because they look like snoopy!
BTW: after losing my last to illness a year ago, I adopted a great adult Border Collie….Yikes, I had a whole lot of learning to do myself!
one fits in your pocket… DUH !
sorry I just had to say this
