Try craigslist.org
Try ebayclassifieds.com
Good luck!
PS New York is one of the high chains of puppy mills, be careful who you buy from..DONT BUY FROM A PET STORE – You will have a dead dog in two days if you buy from a puppy mill..You may have to travel up to 2 hours to get a good quality Beagle.
Website and pet store puppies are puppy mill puppies. Research this if you don’t believe me.
Puppy mill puppies make terrible gifts. “Merry Christmas! This dog will probably require surgery for hip dysplasia or patellar luxation, may go blind or deaf, and probably has bladder or temperament problems. Also, don’t worry, the seizures are normal.” Merry Christmas indeed.
Furthermore, beagles aren’t good for everyone. Some beagles make great, easygoing pets. Others, not so much. Some dig, chew, rattle the windows when they bay, bark, pace and whine incessantly, etc. Furthermore, if you are giving somebody a beagle because they want a dog to hunt with then you have to be far more selective with whom you buy from. You’ll need a dog from working lines, and those breeders will not breed or sell pups this time of year due to the “christmas gift” issue.
75% of all dogs wind up homeless, in shelters, neglected, or abused. Around Christmas times shelters are full to bursting with christmas gifts the recipient didn’t want.
Either get a non-living animal, or get a card and write a note: good for one working-line hunting beagle. Explain that you’re still researching breeders for the right dog. This way, they have some say if they don’t particularly want a beagle.
Only ones available would be poor quality, genetic ridden backyard breeder or puppy mill dogs. Reputable breeders and shelters will not adopt or rehome dogs and puppies at Christmas time.
