where should i buy a rabbit that is in the birch run area but the rabbit needs to be good for training a beagle dog my dog is a blue tick rabbit hound her name is oreo shes still kinda young shes like 1 – 1/2 years old.
ummmm pet store
In the old days they kept the rabbit carcass for training up-and-coming rabbit dogs.
Not many folk eat rabbit anymore, so finding a carcass to train with will be difficult. I would ask another hunter.
Sorry I can’t be more helpful. I don’t eat rabbits either.
@Torgo: it is. Raise your own rabbits for food and walla! You have rabbit carcass for training. Rabbit meat is pretty darn yummy.
How about a rabbit skin to train instead of a real rabbit.
You don’t know the first thing about training your dog to hunt do you?
And no that’s not still kinda young, there are Beagles younger than yours that are already being used to hunt, have the appropriate drive and owners who know what they are doing.
I suggest you contact working beagle breeders in your area or anyone who hunts with beagles to help you. Otherwise you will get nowhere.
from what I understand, the many magicians are proficient at pulling rabbits out of their hats, so you may want to try reaching into your hat for one. If you have no luck with this, i have heard great reviews for this local magician. [link supplied below]
you find a trainer for hunting dogs
rabbits are for after trained to scent, chase and have total recall
Contact the Beagle Club of America. They’ll be able to get you in touch with the right people in your area to help you train a dog for this. A novice should always have a mentor.
@Jazzie – If that’s so he should look into raising some of his own rabbits.
DONT!!!!
