This is an unedited version of today’s clicker training. I wanted to teach Ellie to pick up, retrieve, and deliver an object that she had no previous experience of, with no verbal cues.
Great job – my dog clicker trained dog came and watched? too.
Awesome! I love it! The captions at the end? are especially fun!
Amazing! What? a smart girl!
The standard is to add a verbal command once the dog reliably performs the behaviour. However, I tend to add the cue as soon as possible.
You shouldn’t expect to always use treats. You need to use them frequently at the start of teaching a new behaviour to act as an incentive, but you are right, they should gently be phased out and substituted for? praise. Similarly, clicks for behaviours should be phased out too.
I hope that helps! If not, feel free to message me.
Not really. If you notice they are very small treats. Many times you get get soft treats and break them up really small. Or I often like to take a hot dog and cut it into about 50 pieces. If you do it right, you will use less treats than what most dogs get in a day for free. Also, this is shaping? and clicker training which is different than just clicker training. You could choose not to use treats at all if your dog is praise or toy motivated. Research it and you’ll learn a lot more.
Really? good!!
wow! just over 3mins and Ellie is picking it up? AND giving it to you… WOW!
so…clicker? training dogs requires a lot of treats =D
