Treats to use- Most frequently asked question #1- dog training clicker training

I made this quick video because this is the most common question I get asked daily on youtube. BUT the secret is not WHAT treat to use, but what treat YOUR dog needs you to use. It will be different for every dog! The next secret is that you have to keep changing the treats up or the dog will get bored/habituate to the treat you always use.
Haha, my dog Tam, well I don’t know if he likes or hates bread because if you give him some he goes into the garden starts digging, buries it and thats the last you see of the bread… The same goes for chew treats like meaty bones- (ya know pigs ears and stuff…) he will take them and bury them and if anyone else (dog or human) goes near that patch or him when he’s eating the bone… Oooohhh he’s angry
Good video though lots of gr8 tips!!! (sorry bout the repost! mistake in 1st 1!)

…my dog likes carrots……..lol!!!
@kikopup I can just imagine! That image made me laugh! Haha. (A treat the size of a chihuahua’s head!) But little dogs are worth it. And like you said, once you get the hang of it, like with nearly everything, it becomes easier. Just wondering, do you knit? I was just thinking since you mentioned it…
i’ve got a Bichon puppy that will recite Shakespeare for small pieces of
pepperoni. just zap a few slices for 50 seconds in the microwave, pat them dry
and use 3 or 4 per training session. they’ll crumble…and go a long way.
@kikopup Thanks for replying to my comment and thank you for the great tip regrading the kibble. I really appreciate your time and effort in making these helpful positive dog training videos for us, I have learned so much from you and pamelamarxsen. I’m looking forward to buy your dvds within this month. Thanks once again
@kikopup Hah, cool!! Go figure.
Weird dogs. I even have them on a grain-free raw diet because they don’t do well with grains.
@GreytMusic Splash is obsessed with bread too- her favorite thing!
@BHBTUTORIALS You could use boiled chicken… its part of a bland diet if your dog has dietary restrictions
@josski32 Well… I have seen people feed their tiny chihuahua treats the size of their dogs head almost… Tiny dogs need tiny treats. Its annoying… I must tell you. Its way easier to train a taller dog with bigger treats than fiddle around with a short dog and tiny treats- but it’s like knitting- a learned skill, once you got it, you forget the awkwardness of it
@MrVbdude I would say like 1/5 or 1/6th of their daily food every once in a while- using real meat you can use much more, but one trick you can do is put hot dog pieces in a zip lock baggie with kibble- if your dog eats kibble- and leave it over night- it makes the kibble taste more interesting and makes it more soggy and easier to swallow. kind of nasty but dogs love to eat gross things
I heard a lot of trainers use hotdogs as a training treats, but I also read that they are not good for dogs. So why do trainers use hotdogs and if it is ok to give in small quantity, can someone tell me how much do they mean by small quantity in a day?
Size of the head of a pin???? Omgg
what about if i have a puppy, can i gave her cheese and real meat? i just dont want her to get sick
Thanks for the video
My greyhound LOVES my bread crusts after I have cinnamon toast for breakfast in the morning! Strange, I know, but you sort of mentioned another client who experienced the same… now I feel better.
I was hoping you could do a more detailed video. Like how you prepare the treats and what brands of different things you use. Love your videos and expecially your dogs. They are so cute.
The size of the head of a pin?? What??!?!? isn’t that called a crumb?
how do you prepare your chicken meat?
My dogs both LOVE frozen green peas.
using cheese instead of the treats from the pet store made my dog a billion times smarter
You know u was saying about one of your clients dogs liking bread well my dog loves cucumber but only with the skin peeled off it! I know right WTF! But thats what she likes and thats what I use for complex trick training so if it works then yh
My dog looooooves cheese but the vets say it’s not good for them
Nothing seems to be good enough for anyone these days
The vets that said this are a part of a pet store and they offered me some off the shelf dog treats
Do u think they are just trying to sell or are they genuine xxx
Help x

I never realized a very small treat can make a large dog choke.
