I have a 8 month old beagle puppy that has severe allergies. She is now on prescription dog food and has already had 1 steroid shot and now on predisone pills. The vet said it looked like a contact allergy because the puppy is only red on her stomach. Her stomach is red and she has scratched so much she has no hair left on her stomach. Has anyone been through anything like this? I need help on what to do!
The vet should be able to determine what the allergy is to, then you can try to avoid any contact with it.
My Lab has an allergy to dust, so l changed all the carpets in the house for wood flooring, carpets harbour dust, so removing them helped, hasn’t cured the problem but it has helped.
l get an antiseptic spray called Verbac Dermacool from the vets, it helps to cleanse and ease the itching of hot spots, (areas of irritation), she will nibble and chew at her paws until they bleed, a couple of squirts from the spray helps to ease the itching, this may help your dog when her allergies flare up and stop her itching.
Treating your dog’s allergies may require plenty of time and effort on your part, but your dog’s health is well worth it. A symptom free pet will be a happier and friendlier companion for you and your family.
