Mу Fiance аnd I hаνе a small Yorkshire terrier (yorkie), аnd hе іѕ fοr thе mοѕt раrt a really gοοd dog. Occasionally hе wіll bite οthеr dogs аt thе dog park, οr ουr freinds dog whеn wе аrе giving attention, οr playing wіth οthеr dogs. I realize thіѕ іѕ thе first sign οf aggressive jealousy аnd need tο ѕtοр іt ASAP. I dont know hοw tο discipline thе dog, ѕіnсе verbal cues lіkе “bаd dog” hаνе nο effect. I wаѕ аlѕο tοld thаt “bаd dog” doesnt mean anything tο Pets, ѕο I need something еlѕе.
Tone of voice is what matters, it means more than physical punishment.
If you’re having problems with this, you need to seek professional help. I wouldn’t recommend physical discipline to anyone, it doesn’t ever seem to work for people who aren’t professionals.
Call around for some obedience classes, they’re great for teaching you how to control your dog.
If you want to try the spray bottle method, it works better if the dog doesn’t see you spray him. We used this to stop our dog from digging on the couch. She hates water and a simple squirt from behind her was enough to stop the behavior in a few days.
The best that worked for my dog was holding her mussel and making strong eye contact. This is a signal of dominance. That or I would try an electric collar because you can deliver a punishment swiftly and from a distance (make sure to give a verbal cue)
Try a shaker can. Take a small metal container and fill it with a hand full of pennies. If he is bad shake it over his head or throw it on the ground near him but not at him. This should distract him from what he was doing so you can redirect his attention.
say no a tap it on its nose cuz i have a chihuahua and that works
I was told to get a spray bottle and spray their chest and neck area and say “No” in a firm voice. That has worked for my little girl who used to bark at other people and dogs when we were on our walks. That is as physical as I would ever get with her. Make sure not to spray the dog in the face because that is mean
Sharpen his basic obedience. The best training is preventative. If he listens to you without a second thought, it will be a lot easier to avoid problems. He should come when called, sit and stay without hesitation. When you have control over him he will not challenge your authority.
I’d use a hand correction at first. A firm touch/grasp to get his mind off of what it’s focused on and get his focus back on you. If this doesn’t work get a training collar and a leash. Leash corrections work on dogs of any size. I just got an e-mail from a young lady who’s Chocolate Lab was attacking her other female dogs, she said she tried the leash corrections and it’s already starting to have an effect. Let your dog drag a leash and training collar. When he shows any aggression give a medium leash correction and say “NO”. He isn’t outwardly aggressive yet so it doesn’t quite warrant an extreme correction, but if it isn’t nipped in the bud, it will. Be consistent, make it clear to him that if he shows aggression, he will be corrected, every time. I hope I helped, good luck, and feel free to e-mail me with any questions or concerns.
Change the way YOU think…DON’T HIT YOUR DOG! It will become afraid of anything you use that scares or hurts it (rolled newspaper or your hand).
Check out one of the Dog Whisperer books or the show. You can even get it at most libraries…discipline with kindness or you will have a monster on your hands! http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/tips/
