He is registered and is half champion blood. He has blue eyes and it absolutely beautiful, but just a very sexual puppy with my 18 month old weinerdog. Please any advice is worth it!
If you TRULY want to breed your Beagle for the good of the BREED, then find a reputable breeder in your area who is looking for a sire. Otherwise, get him neutered.
if your other dog is not in heat, this is not sexual behavior. just dominant behavior. if your don’t like it i say just pull him off. they get the idea eventually. if you are planning to breed him, you don;t want to discourage the behavior too much. if you do breed however, PLEASE get all the genetic testing he needs and find a mentor to help you through. start doing research now, there is A LOT to learn if you are planning on breeding
Dogs can become sexually mature usually any time after 6-7 months of age. If your other dog is a female that is not spayed – when she comes into heat they will mate with eachother! Beagles are larger than dachshunds and should NOT be bred with eachother.
Whats the point of having an intact dog if you’re not breeding him? And half champion doesn’t mean anything. If you’re not going to breed properly, then neuter him. He will still be beautiful and he will live longer. There is no way to stop a dog from being horny unless you SPAY the weiner dog to stop her heat cycles that make your beagle go nutty.
Sorry dear, you dog is doing what hes meant to do, and he will develop other, bad habits like marking the walls with urine. If you don’t get him fixed soon he may exhibit other mating habits like humping your leg, or furniture. He may even run off if another female goes into heat in the neighborhood. I’m not a beagle expert, but in a lot of breed blue eyes is a negative, if it is in yours please, get him neutered, he will live longer and happier, and you will enjoy him more in the long run.
I just checked the AKC standard for beagles and they state the dog should have brown or hazel eyes. You can feel comfortable neutering him. Despite his background, no reputable breeder will intermix their stock with a dog that doesn’t meet breed standards.
Neuter.
The end.
That sounds like an act of “dominance”…not sexual..unless your other dog is in heat.
He is old enough to mate. He is not old enough to test for diseases affecting beagles nor old enough for age of onset of disease. Wait to breed. Also, contact the Beagle club of america to find a mentor. Know the diseases in order to avoid reproducing them. http://clubs.akc.org/NBC/beagle_health_problems.htm
Keep him away from intact females, meanwhile.
If one wants to breed, learn all you can about your breed, your dog and his pedigree. A healthy dog can still pass on health problems to his get. and most of all, please screen homes and keep in touch with owners and take back any pups that need rehoming no matter their age.
Half champion blood? This means nothing. I’m sure he’s beautiful. I’m also sure it’ll help if you fix BOTH your dogs.
He is old enough to mate. Not neutering him will increase the chances of him getting cancer. Prostate and/or testicular cancer, plus the chance of him escaping and getting hit by a car because he smelled a girl in heat are also there. So, if you want to look forward to any of these things happening, don’t get him neutered. Oh God and PLEASE don’t let them breed. If they do your weiner dog will most likely need a cesarean since her birth canal will be too small to pass puppies that size. All this equals hefty vet bill, best to get him neutered now.
Registered and “half champion blood” don’t mean anything. I volunteer at a doberman rescue and we got in a “purebred” doberman with AKC papers that was a mutt. Not that your dog is, but to make a point….. Anyway, you need to get your dogs fixed. It doesn’t harm them, they don’t notice, they will be healthier its definitely cheaper in the long run… There isn’t really any reason not to fix your dog. He has a blue eye, which I’m sure is beautiful, but it’s not in the breed standard and he would be disqualified. Even a field dog breeder wouldn’t breed a dog with a blue eye. Please get your dogs fixed, there are 17,000,000 pets euthanized in the US every year. Don’t contribute to the body piles. If your worried he wont be as “manly” if he’s 10 months he’s old enough to retain all his “manliness” and it won’t be a problem. At least get him a vasectomy.
With that said, if your female isn’t in heat (I HOPE NOT) its not a sexual thing as much as a dominance thing. Dogs dont mate for pleasure like humans, they mate because their hormones drive them to it, and often it IS quite uncomfortable. So if you neuter him, TRUST me, he will be safer and definitely wont be missing out on anything other than getting hit by a car or stds (and yes dogs can get stds).
Sounda like a really nice beagle, pretty..
You do not want to breed any male till 18-24 mos old, I prefer to wait till the dog matures to 24 mos..it makes it better for him, and I refuse to breed a female till 24 mos, never before, makes her healthier and makes the pups stronger when she is bred….
dont breed him early, let him mature to full growth potential, you will be glad you did….this for any breed not just beagles
